Arnhem Land
After many years of negotiations, we received permission to do our first walk into Arnhem Land in 1999. That trip was a resounding success and the Aboriginal traditional owners of the area gave us permission to offer it again in 2000. They stressed that we could not take continued access for granted and we were unable to offer it from 2001 to 2003. On 28 February 2003, we were told that it was back on the agenda and we ran it again in 2004 and 2005. In 2005, we added a second Arnhem Land trip where we retraced part of the route followed by the explorer Ludwig Leighhardt in 1845. We hope to continue offering these walks - and others - in the future
Although we have limited access to southwest Arnhem Land, we have been granted permission to run a number of trips on Aboriginal land between the Manyallaluk Aboriginal Community and Katherine Gorge.
Each group will be accompanied by one or more Aboriginal guides who will take us into areas not normally open to the general public. These photos are from that walk.
