Karijini National Park

June 7-20, 2020

Photo stop, Dales Gorge

Section 1: Munjina and Dales Gorges: June 7-13

Pool below Munjina Gorge camp site

We begin with a drive from Tom Price to the edge of Karijini National Park where we begin a walk through the Munjina and Dales-Dignam Gorge systems. We spend two nights at some campsites, doing day walks into the surrounding gorges.

Walking throuigh the paperbarks in Dales Gorge

At the end of the week, we visit Fortescue Falls and climb out to the Dales Gorge campsite where we are met by the vehicle which brings in our food for the second half along with anyone joining. Those finishing here are driven back to Port Hedland.

Section 2: Kalamina to Wittenoom: June 13-20

Aboriginal rock carvings

After a brief visit to the Karijini Visitor Centre, we are dropped off at Kalamina Gorge where we walk down to yet another beautiful bush campsite. The following day, we pass by a rock wall covered in Aboriginal carvings, the most extensive art site we have found in the park

View from the top of Red Gorge

From Kalamina we walk over to Knox Gorge, then across to Red Gorge where we do a day walk to Hancock and Weano Gorges. We finish by walking out through Wittenoom Gorge to the road where we are met by the vehicle which brings us back to Tom Price.

Terrain and difficulty. This walk has it all. Some of the country is flat and easy going, some is rough and steep. Some is open and some covered with thick scrub. As the vegetation varies from year to year, we can't say how thick the scrub will be until we do the walk.

This is neither an exceptionally easy nor an exceptionally difficult walk. There will be plenty of time to stop and enjoy the many waterfalls and pools along the way

Your rewards are spectacular scenery without the tourist hordes you find at the easily accessible spots and an incredible wilderness experience no other operator can offer you.
